Our Call To Elected Officials: Prioritize Women’s Equality

Download this Letter as a PDF

To those holding elected office, this is our Call to Action:

We stand together with individuals and organizations across New York State as part of PowHer New York, a nonpartisan network working together to promote women’s economic equality in our state and the nation.

PowHer represents tens of thousands of New Yorkers who urge you to address and prioritize policies that significantly affect women’s health, safety and economic opportunities.

New York’s history includes many of the first advancements for women’s equality and we carry that history with pride. Now, as we step into an uncertain future, New York must not hesitate. We must continue to pave this road and finish the journey that began at Seneca Falls, especially as we celebrate New York State’s suffrage centennial this year.

Too many women still lack access to: better jobs and equal pay, fair wages, improved workplace practices, leadership roles, caregiving support, quality child care, affordable housing, physical security, and healthcare, including reproductive services. Particularly impacted are: women of color; immigrant women; lesbian, bisexual and transgender women; women with disabilities; and women with low or fixed incomes.

Although proud of our legislative accomplishments in recent years designed to reduce gender discrimination, much more can and must be done.

We will not squander our momentum or be satisfied with the status quo. We urge all our leaders to prioritize issues critical to women’s well-being in the months and years ahead.
