Struggling NYC Mothers Deserve #FairFares!

As we celebrate moms this Mother’s Day, let’s think about how we can help struggling moms everyday by making going to work and caring for their families a little easier.

Tell Mayor de Blasio that a great Mother’s Day gift for hard pressed Moms would be #FairFares!

In NYC, one way is to support #FairFares, a campaign for half-price fares on buses and subways for New York City residents under the federal poverty level. Why will this make a difference to so many mothers?

Forty percent of the city’s single mothers live below poverty – twice the poverty rate for New Yorkers overall and one in three working age women in poverty say they struggle to afford bus and subway fares, according to an annual survey by Community Service Society and Celinda Lake.

There is tremendous public support for #FairFares, but it was not included in the Mayor’s proposed budget, although the Council and Speaker Mark-Viverito are pushing for funding.
