Latina Equal Pay Day 2021

This year Latina Equal Pay Day is October 21, 2021  and marks the day into 2021 that a Latina must work to earn what a white, non-Hispanic male earned in 2020. In New York, that translates into a loss of almost $29,000 annually. At the current rate, Latinas will reach equal pay in 2220! That must change. PowHer stands in solidarity with Latinas and invites you to join us to amplify their voices with a Virtual Rally. New York leaders, advocates and workers will speak out and share solutions which will create an equitable recovery and future for Latinas.

Join us online from October 21st from 1:30-2 PM EST for the Virtual Rally
We will continue into the National Twitter Storm from 2-3:00PM

“For decades Latina women have been disproportionately under-compensated within the workplace despite having the same education, experience and credibility – receiving 57 cents less for every dollar a white male, white woman or non-Hispanic make. This is an unfortunate truth that we are living today and this disparity harms Latinas worldwide especially those who had to rise from impoverished communities that lacked resources to help individuals build a career,” said Assemblywoman Maritza Davila. “October 21st is more than just bringing awareness or providing our young women the tools to assist them in the workplace but to also strengthen policy to ensure that individuals are receiving fair and equitable pay.”

NYS Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez

NYS Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas

NYS Assemblyman William Magnarelli

NYC Council Member Farah N. Louis, co-chair of the Women’s Caucus
“More than 50 years has passed since the historic passing of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. However, Latina women are still paid 56 cents for every dollar, substantially less than their male counterparts in New York State. As we continue to fight against a global pandemic, women, particularly frontline and healthcare workers, face pay disparities. Gender and racial identity should not be what defines our value as a person or an employee, because we are all deserving of equitable pay and respect,” said Council Member Farah N. Louis, co-chair of the Women’s Caucus.

NYC Council Member Adrienne Adams

NYC Council Member Darma Diaz

Sarah Bancone, New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG)

Elisa Charters, Latina Surge

Emerita Torres, Community Service Society of New York

Veronica Colon Rosario, Puerto Rico’s Women Foundation

Elba Montalvo, New York Women’s Foundation Alumnae and Puerto Rico Women’s Foundation’s Board Co-Chair
“Puerto Rican women are doubly jeopardized and disrespected in the workplace—first for our gender and second because we are Latinx. There is no respect without equal pay.”
