For too long, women have had to deal with inequities in wages, but for black women and women of color especially, the gap is even wider. Although, here in the NYC the City Council has been able to pass a bill, spearheaded by Public Advocate Letitia James, that bans employers citywide from asking prospective employees about their salary history; it is disheartening and disappointing to come to terms with the fact that some of our processes still foster and perpetuate gender discrimination and racial-based bias. That is why it is important for women to come together on these issues, and for us to advocate for more women of color to be put in positions of leadership, where they can have real dialogues about wage equity for Black Women.
