Send a message to the NYC Council to pass three pay equity bills! To “level the paying field, job seekers and employees need critical information from employers to negotiate fair wages. Following the global trend, employers need to move towards adopting more transparent practices to attract the best talents and build organizational trust. This best practice is in place in Europe and other countries and should be the standard for New York and the nation.
These bills will break down the pay secrecy which allows employers to inject gender and racial biases, often unconsciously, into the salary setting process, which results in lower wages.
What will these 3 laws do? Currently, salary ranges in job postings are mandated by NYC law. That was an important first step but not enough. Intro 808 would amend current law by addressing overbroadly ranges; requiring job descriptions and disclosure of all forms of compensation (bonuses, stock options, benefits) and ensuring current employees can access pay range information. Intro 982 (Caban) would advance transparency by requiring large employers submit anonymized pay data, and Intro 984 (Farias) would study the data for overarching trends and offer solutions to address increasing inequity in wages and opportunities for workers.
Wage inequity robs workers and their families of the earnings they need, more than ever. At a time of economic stress, we need our leaders to step up. Urge them to pass these 3 important bills.
Send a letter to NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and the NYC Council members to pass the three bills using the form below.
